Rex retired in 2003 after serving 36 year with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District. He was actively involved in Fire, Rescue and Disaster training at the local, state and national level. He serves on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Search Working Group. After retirement, Rex continues to teach rescue courses for the State of California and technical search courses for California Office of Emergency Services (OES) and DHS FEMA US&R response teams.
He earned a degree in Fire Science, a lifetime teaching credential for college level Fire Science programs and is as a rostered FEMA instructor. He has experience in disaster response as the Search Team Manager for FEMA’s US&R California Task Force Three, including Hurricane Iniki, Northridge Earthquake, Oklahoma City bombing, Taiwan Earthquake, NYC WTC, Hurricane Katrina as well as other local and state responses. Rex has lived in Menlo Park from 1967 to the present; he and his wife Cece have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
Rex Ianson currently serves as the Board’s Vice President and is a member of the Human Resource Committee.
He has served on the Board since 2005.
