The Menlo Park Fire Protection District
proudly sponsors the CA-TF3 Urban Search and
Rescue Team. It operates under the Federal
Emergency Management Agency. As the
sponsoring agency the Fire District has the
responsibility of managing the team making
sure it is able to respond to any incident
it is requested to do so.
Manning the team is done through many
departments in the Metropolitan Bay Area.
When the team is deployed it's members
comprises 63 members. Approximately 18 team
members come from the Menlo Park Fire
District with the remaining positions being
filled by other Fire Departments and a
handful of civilian positions (engineers,
rescue dogs, communication specialists,
etc.)
On
September 11, 2001 the United States was attack by terrorist.
Many Americans lost their lives during these attacks.
Many Firefighters, Policeman and EMS Personnel lost
their lives while trying to save others. The Fire
Department of New York (FDNY) lost over 300 of their own
personnel including most of their command staff. At
11:00 am on September 11, 2001 California Task Force 3 (CATF-3)
was put on alert. Preparations began for their eventual
September 18 activation. The Task Force developed
a slide show presentation to brief other emergency personnel
