BREAKING NEWS - November 19, 2018 – Search Dog Injured as Members of the Menlo Fire Drone Team and Task Force 3 spend Sunday searching the community of Magalia during the Camp Fire

Menlo Park Fire Protection District – Team Members were searching from the air and on the ground in the community of Magalia Sunday
The 45 Team members, 13 vehicles with 7 trailers with over 50 thousand pounds of technical search, rescue and recovery equipment belonging to the Bay Area’s Rescue Team, California Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 3 (CA-TF3), who arrived in the Oroville Base Camp late Saturday night.

The Task Force is one of eight California Governors Office of Emergency Services (Cal-OES) State Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Task Forces and one of twenty eight National Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Teams and is sponsored by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.
Team members come from multiple fire agencies such as the Menlo Park Fire District (the sponsor), Central County, Milpitas, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Santa Clara City, Santa Clara County and San Jose Fire Department as well as Sunnyvale Department of  Public Safety and the Woodside Fire Protection District along with civilian professionals with Facebook, Genentech and Stanford Research International (SRI).

Fire Chief Schapelhouman said “during search and recovery operations in the burned out and destroyed home sites in the community of Magalia, Sunday, K9 Team Member George sustained a leg injury. His handler/partner Tim Houweling, with the Mountain View Fire Department, immediately removed him from the site and brought him out to the street, where they cleaned and bandaged his leg”.

“George was then transported to our Team Physician Justin Lemieux’s location. Doctor Lemieux examined the wound, which was located on George’s left rear paw, between the the achilles and pads. The wound was cleaned again, stitched up and bandaged. They believe he will be ready to go back to work doing what he loves on Monday”. Chief Schapelhouman said.
