Permits – Development and Construction Plan Review

All new construction permitted through the Town of Atherton Building Department, City of East Palo Alto Building Department, City of Menlo Park Building Department and the San Mateo County Building Department within our District is reviewed and inspected by the Fire and Life Safety Division to ensure plans meet applicable fire and life-safety requirements. All new installations and all modifications to fire protection and life safety systems are reviewed and inspected by the Fire and Life Safety Division to that the installation or modifications meet applicable fire and life-safety codes and standards.

General Requirements for Paper Plans:

  • Allow a minimum of ten (10) business days for plan review
  • Two (2) full sets of constructions drawings
  • A completed plan review application
  • Appropriate sized drawings. “C” size 24” x 36” is preferred
  • Plan review fee required at submittal

General Requirements for Digital Plans:

  • Completed application
  • Credit Card Authorization form
  • Plans (stamped and signed)
  • Any supporting documents

The Fire District is an outside referral agency for development plan review for the Town of Atherton, City of East Palo Alto, City of Menlo Park and Unincorporated San Mateo County. Development plans are reviewed to verify that proposed development within our District is serviceable and will provide infrastructure that complies with requirements of the adopted fire code.
